A 1st: Indian bags top directing award at Venice fest

Anuparna Roy, a debutant filmmaker from rural Bengal, won Best Director at the 82nd Venice Film Festival for ‘Songs of Forgotten Trees.’ Roy dedicated her win to the children of Gaza, advocating for peace and liberation. Her parents, initially skeptical of her career choice, now celebrate her achievement, which came decades after Satyajit Ray’s Golden Lion win.
