The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that apprehending armed militants qualifies as an “encounter” for reservation benefits for police personnel’s children. Justice Jagmohan Bansal’s order favored Sonam Kamboj, whose application was initially rejected because her father’s service record did not meet the encounter participation criteria.
